/kən-ˈtrōl vē/

vi. "Put that back."

Derived from the Paste operation, Control-V is the natural continuation of Control-C’s impulsive behavior. Where Control-C merely copies intent, Control-V commits it to reality — often without asking whether the destination was prepared, appropriate, or even correct.

Frequently used immediately after Control-C, sometimes accidentally after Control-X, and almost always followed by a moment of quiet dread when the pasted content is far longer than expected.

In conversational use, Control-V implies restoring something that was removed, repeating information verbatim, or re-injecting context that someone thought they were done with. Unlike Control-Z, which expresses regret, Control-V expresses inevitability.

Considered mildly dangerous. Occasionally catastrophic. Always final.
